C.E.R.E.S. sodium lactate is a sodium salt of natural lactic acid made by fermentation from sugar. It is a food grade product and is pH neutral.
Application: Lactate is commonly used for bioremediation as a carbon donor to enhance the degradation of contaminants in soil and groundwater. When injected into the groundwater zone of a contaminated site, lactate is
metabolized by indigenous bacteria or engineered anaerobic bacteria such as KB1 or SDC-9. During this process, sodium lactate is fermented into simpler compounds like acetate, which further undergoes microbial reduction. The electrons (hydrogen) released during these metabolic processes are used by bacteria to reduce chlorinated
compounds into less harmful substances, such as ethene and chloride ions.
Lactate⁻ + H₂O → Acetate⁻ + CO₂ + 2H₂
Sodium, potassium, calcium, and ethyl lactates are commonly used alone and in combination with other donors such as emulsified vegetable oils or its derivatives as well as ferrous gluconate and calcium acetate.

Potassium Lactate is the potassium salt lactic acid made by fermentation of sugar and is pH neutral, water soluble and blends easily with water. Potassium Lactate can also be used as a salt substitute for low-sodium applications and is a viscous liquid (60% solids) with an appearance that is colorless to slightly yellow.
Calcium Lactate pentahydrate powder has a very high purity, is highly soluble in water, and is slightly alkaline above 7.
Ethyl Lactate is a green solvent produced from corn, is 100% fermentable donor with a lot of benefits such as it is non-corrosive, non-carcinogenic, and most importantly, it has high solvency power (improves solubilization and dissolution of DNAPLs). This may be very useful in DNAPL sites with fine grained soils and easily supplemented with or combined with other reagents or donors.
